LESTER CREATIVE PIONEERS
ENERGY-EFFICIENT LAS VEGAS GLITZ
VALENCIA, CA - 7 October 1998 - A Valencia company has introduced
exciting technology to Las Vegas that is modernizing Nevada's brilliant
signage and saving hotels and casinos "megabucks" annually in
electricity costs.
Working with the MGM Grand Hotel over the past 18 months on the
facility's multi-million-dollar "master plan renovation"
created by Dougall Design Associates, Lester Creative, Inc., introduced
the concept of large-format light-emitting diodes, or "LEDs"
for the hotel's 18 large-format indoor and outdoor lighted signs. The
result: 18 dramatic, ever-changing LED screens, ranging in size from 600
to 3,000 square feet.
These screens do more than beckon visitors inside with glittery
promises of entertainment thrills and jackpot opportunities. They're
wired to show digital animation and video -- with up to nine times the
resolution currently available with incandescent displays.
The advantage of LEDs over incandescent lamps also includes dramatic
savings in both electricity and maintenance expenses for large format
signage of this type.
"Replacing the incandescent lights on the marquis pylon in front
of the MGM with a 40-foot-by-54-foot LED board is saving the hotel about
$50,000 a month in power costs," said Lawrence H. Lester, president
of Lester Creative. "The technology not only saves money and
produces a brilliant high-resolution display -- even in the midday sun
-- but also enables the hotel to show live video and complex
computer-generated animation. The display can be changed at a moment's
notice!"
Working closely with MGM executives, Lester studied state-of-the-art
large format displays and recommended the LED screens, selecting Display
Ad Nevada to manufacture the signs.
The lighted, computer-controlled boards have application not only for
hotels and casinos, but also for stadiums, specialty billboards, indoor
advertising, and much more.
Dramatic signage was only part of the hotel's front entrance
re-design. Working as the hotel operators' representative, Lawrence H.
Lester, president of Lester Creative, and his staff provided project
management, technical direction and quality control for the attractive
new gateway to this entertainment complex on the Vegas strip, directing
the efforts of dozens of artistic and technical specialists.
The design, created by Dougall Design Associates of Pasadena,
includes a 45-foot tall bronze lion (the largest bronze in the United
States) mounted on a 25-foot-tall pedestal, laser and fog effects,
sculptures, lighting, audio systems and choreographed water fountains.
